I want! I want! Thanks, Confessor, yet another item I must add to my growing list of nifty stuff... :)
I didn't know you were a BSG fan! Kick ass.
I'm old school. I like the original series, with Dirk Benedict, Richard Hatch, and Lorne Greene. (I had a huge crush on Dirk Benedict. I was 6 then.)If you want an interesting take on the new BSG, read Dirk's webpage.
...Wow.
He seems really, really bitter. I was amazed at his lack of professional reaction and his general air of contempt for what is a well thought-out, three dimensional depiction of a harrowing situation.
I have to disagree with alot of what he has to say. The new BSG has alot of heart and pathos and yes, it absolutely has a huge share of bleak, terrible, horrible shit going on. But that's how people, real people, work. Sometimes they step up to the plate, sometimes they crack under the pressure.
And, sorry, Kara Tharce - the new Starbuck, kicks ass.
I think the point Dirk was trying to get across is that BSG was intended to be space opera, not bleak, horrid, OMG we're gonna die! type stuff. For crying out loud, if you've read anything I've written about my mom, *she* let me watch BSG. If I was a kid now, forget it. It would be way too scary for a young child. (IMHO) But anyway, I jumped in at the last moment watching the new BSG, and it didn't make a blinking bit of sense. Guess I'll have to watch it from the beginning to get it.
See, I've never seen it as "OMG! We're all gonna die!" I've seen it more as raging against the dying of the light. No matter what we're going to live. But, I digress.
And trying to watch BSG now? Dear Lord, are you crazy? Yeah, start from the get-go. Netflix or rent Season 1 and go from there. It's great stuff, with or without the history of old BSG.
When I was in high school I had my own personal Area 51 badge. Did I mention that was in HIGH SCHOOL?!
